• After the talk with Haymitch, Katniss heads back to her room and thinks about her life ahead with Peeta.
• Not only does she worry about the life ahead of her, she worries about if they were to end up having children and these children going into the arena.
• She spends the night strategizing about a way to escape being controlled by the Capitol.
• In the morning she has to get up to get breakfast because in a few hours they will enter District 2.
• When she enters the Dining Room it’s just Effie sitting at the table.
• After breakfast the prep team starts working on Katniss again.
• Everybody gets together for lunch. Katniss snaps at Effie because, she is really getting on her nerves.
• After snapping at Effie, Katniss leaves the train, because it stopped to get fuel, and just walks along the side of the train.
• After a bit of walking she sits down and Peeta joins her. They both apologize to one another. They are going to start to get to know each other better.
• Katniss doesn’t inform Peeta about President Snow.
• Then Katniss and Peeta go back into the train. Peeta shows Katniss the paintings he made, and is working on.
• The paintings all have the same story to tell but from different perspectives, and different events that took place in the arena – they show the truth about the Hunger Games.
• Katniss can’t look at them for too long because they just remind her about everything that happened during the Games.
• Peeta says he has to make them due to the face that he can’t forget what happened, and that this is his way to process what happened.
• They arrive in District 11. It’s in a lot worse condition that District 12.
• District 11 is closed off a lot more than District 12 is.
• They get ready for the event. Effie informs them that they will make speeches at the Justice Building.
• As they are taken to the Justice Building people clap. Katniss gets ready for acting to convince President Snow of her love for Peter.
• The acting is becoming a challenge for her because both Thresh and Rue’s families are there. (Rue and Thresh are tributes from District 11 who got killed in the last games.)
• Peeta starts talking. At the end of the speech eh shocks everybody by saying that both Katniss and him owe Thresh and Rue so much. He makes a promise that they will donate some of their winnings to Thresh and Rue’s families every year for the rest of their lives.
• Katniss is very surprised and impressed and kisses Peeta and then starts her speech.
• Before her speech is over, she meets one of Rue’s sisters eyes. The eyes show her that she needs to show everybody how much she regrets Rue’s death.
• She gives thanks to both Thresh and Rue’s families. She tells everybody that she Rue all around; but most of all, she sees Rue in her little sister Prim.
• After this act, an old man in the crowd whistles the special mockingjay theme. It was the theme that Rue whistled in the arena. The whole crowd repeats it.
• Katniss becomes afraid because it could look like another sign of rebellion. She didn’t mean it to be a sign of rebellion.
• Before she can even do anything, Peacekeepers rush into the crowd and drag the old man onto the platform.
• Peeta and Katniss are dragged into the Justice Building. They both notice that they forgot their flowers. They want to get them but they aren’t able to. They just see how the old man gets executed on the platform.
