Catching Fire - Chapter 15 Summary

·      While Katniss is being prepped for the Opening Ceremony of the Games, her prep team are very upset about her return to the Games.

·      Cinna comes in and is very upset but focuses these emotions on his work.

·      After a nice lunch, Cinna braids Katniss’ hair and puts bright and bold makeup on her face.

·      Her outfit, which Cinna has designed is a plain black cat suit, but Cinna says it has a secret element to it: it lights up as though it’s on fire. Katniss looks like burning coal. Cinna tells Katniss she needs to be focussed and stern in her interviews and at the ceremony.

·      Katniss leaves Cinna and then goes and meets the other tributes. Finnick (District 4) introduces himself. He is one of the most famous tributes, because of his ability and good looks. He is one of the youngest people to ever win the Games. Since the games Finnick has had many lovers and lived a luxurious life in the Capitol. He tells Katniss that he has collected many dark secrets from people in the Capitol. Finnick tries to flatter Katniss but she is unimpressed.

·      Peeta meets up with Katniss again and are upset by what’s happened to the other tributes since winning.

·      They get to the Opening Ceremony and turn on their costumes, so they look like they’re on fire. The crowd loves Peter and Katniss, especially in their flame costumes.

·      Peeta and Katniss then head to their rooms, where they meet Johanna, who they know is very dangerous because she manipulates people. She tries to flirt with Peeta, which annoys Katniss.

·      Peeta and Katniss then meet up with Effie and Haymitch and the four go to where they will be staying whilst in the Capitol. When they arrive where they’re staying there are two Avoxes (people who have their tongues cut out as punishment by the capitol). One of the Avoxes is Darius, who is one of Katniss’ old friends, and she is shocked and upset to see he has been punished in this way.
