Catching Fire - Chapter 21 Summary

·      Katniss wakes everyone and shouts that they need to move quickly.

·      Finnick takes Mags and runs, and Katniss is left to pull Peeta along. She thinks that it might be best to go on without him, as he is still feeling the effects of the earlier accident in the force field. But she quickly decides she cannot do this.

·      Katniss and Peeta are struggling in the fog, and the fog is burning them. Peeta starts to slow down even more, as a result of the poisonous fog. Finnick returns to take Peeta, while Katniss helps Mags.

·      Katniss has been badly affected by the gas, and no longer has the strength to carry Mags. Mags sees that Finnick needs to take Peeta, so runs into the gas and sacrifices herself for the other three.

·      The three others can’t save her, so continue as far as they can before collapsing, as the fog has stopped following them.

·      As they head to the water, where the games first started, they see monkeys nearby. They jump into the water, and it is very painful for them but the burns on their bodies slowly start to feel better.

·      Finnick collapses and Peeta and Katniss pick him up and slowly take him to the water and bathe him, to try and heal him.

·      Katniss and Finnick lie in the water, while Peeta goes and taps a tree for more water. Katniss starts to wonder why Finnick and Mags are doing so much to protect them.

·      Suddenly dangerous looking monkeys surround Katniss and Finnick.

·      Katniss signals to Peeta to come back without disturbing the monkeys. He nearly makes it but then the monkeys start to attack them. Katniss realises that these creatures are mutations made by the Gamemakers.

·      A monkey attacks Peeta, and before Katniss can get there to help him, another tribute, jumps in front of Peeta, and is horribly bitten by it, but saves Peeta’s life. The tribute who saved him was a morphling addict, which means they had an addiction to the medicine.
