Catching Fire - Chapter 6 Summary

·      Katniss realises she can’t win, which makes her feel relieved as at least now she is aware of this fact.

·      She starts to plot how to escape with her family and friends when she is back in District 12.

·      After the interview, there is a big party, with amazing food. Peeta thinks she is acting weird at it though. Many people at the party are wearing her Mockinjay symbol, but Katniss thinks it is just a new fashion trend in the capitol.

·      Katniss eats a lot, and then her prep team try to convince her and Peeta to drink some weird kind of a liquid, which will make them, throw up so they can eat and drink more. They refuse as they think it is very wasteful as there is so little in District 12.

·      Peeta and Katniss dance and start talking about how they should maybe help the rebellion, but decide that they shouldn’t talk about it at a Capitol Party.

·      Plutarch Heavensbee comes up and introduces himself and dances with Katniss, he is the new Head Gamemaker (the man in charge of the Hunger Games). He then makes a big point of showing her his watch, the clock shows it is almost 12pm, and then an image of a Mockingjay appears on the face of the watch and then goes. He tells her he is preparing for the Quarter Quell.

·      Katniss thinks the meeting is very strange and doesn’t know why he made such an effort to show her his watch. Effie comes over and says it’s time to leave, so they pick up Haymitch and go back to the train.

·      Katniss and Peeta share their bed together again, as they both have such bad nightmares. The next morning Peeta tells Katniss that he had no nightmares that night. She says she had a dream that a Mockingjay turned into Rue. Peeta says when he has nightmares it’s about not being able to find Katniss. This makes Katniss feel guilty, as his feelings are genuine, while she is very confused about how she feels.

·      The train takes them all back to District 12, and they are just in time for the Harvest Festival, which is to be celebrated at the Mayor’s House.

·      Katniss starts to talk about her friendship with the mayor’s daughter, Madge. She is the one who gave Katniss the pin. Katniss goes looking for Madge at the party but instead sees an emergency broadcast on the Mayor’s TV – she shouldn’t be watching it but she knows that District 8 are beginning to rebel.
