Catching Fire - Chapter 18 Summary

·      Caesar doesn’t want to make a big deal out of Katniss’ costume, but Katniss talks about the way it looks like a Mockingjay and knows that it has been understood. Caesar then shows the dress designer – Cinna, and Katniss realises that Cinna is potentially in a lot of danger.

·      Peeta is the next one to be interviewed and is very comfortable during the interview; he says that Katniss and him have already had a private wedding ceremony. Katniss plays along, and then Peeta says she is pregnant with his baby. The audience goes wild with emotion. As emotions are running so high, the interview is cut short. The tributes then all hold hands in an act of unity, which has never been seen before between tributes.

·      They then all go back to their rooms, and Peeta asks whether he was wrong to tell all the lies, and she says no. They then meet with Haymitch, who says although there was change during the Games, it was not enough and the Games are happening tomorrow.

·      Following their last night of rest together, Peeta and Katniss split up and go to their separate styling areas to have the final preparations for the Games.

·      Cinna helps Katniss get ready, and she thanks him for her Mockingjay costume. Cinna says again that his betting money will always be on her. Cinna walks her to her tube, which transports her to the arena. Once she is inside the tube, armed guards come in and beat Cinna before taking him away.

·      Katniss’ tube then starts to move, and Katniss is placed on a bit of land, which is surrounded by water.
