Catching Fire - Chapter 1 Summary

Catching Fire – Chapter 1 Summary

-       Katniss and Peta – and all the others from the team – have to go on the Victory Tour. Visiting all the other 11 Districts. Which Katniss doesn’t like because she is forced to because she has to remember the one girl she partnered up with in the Hunger Games (she got killed in the Hunger Games)
-       Katniss is forced to be part – again – of the Capitol’s media manipulation. President Snow is the head of the Capitol. He is a wicked man and nobody likes him.
-       Katniss wants to leave all the memories – of the Hunger Games – behind her. Go back to her ‘old life’. It isn’t possible anymore, because she is ‘owned’ by the Capitol.
-       Her hunting friend Gale (Katniss used to go hunting with him illegally) is still very poor and because Katniss won the last Hunger Games has a better life than him. She lives where – if tributes win of the District – get to live there. Even though she has got a new life, she still goes hunting in the woods. When she gets back, she always goes to Gale’s Family house and brings them her catch.
-       She never thought that she would win the Hunger Games, but she did. She does like it on one side; but on the other she doesn’t. She misses the old times – the time before she had to go into the Hunger Games – when she and Gale hunted every Saturday/Sunday. She misses having a lot more freedom.
-       She never thought that the Hunger Games could change Gale and her ‘special friendship’ so much.
-       In the first book of the Hunger Games, Peeta and Katniss only get saved because they pretend to be in love. They aren’t really, and both Peeta and Katniss have to face a lot of problems; a problem like camera people always there to film them, and lots more.
-       At the end of the Chapter, President Snow visits her house. He forces her to continue acting as if she was in love with Peeta. That’s the way he manipulates the whole population, showing everybody that everything is ‘perfect’ and that there aren’t any problems. President Snow tells Katniss, if she won’t do it, her family would get harmed. She assures him that she won’t do anything that could harm her, her family of the Capitol.
